Feel the history - "the castle of Samuil"

"The Castle of Samuil" was built in 1000. It's conected with one of the mosttragic moments in our history.
In 1014 Byzantine emperor Vasilii II, called later Bulgaroctone, rushed between Belasitsa and Ograjden mauntin, nearby to the village of Kliuth . The Bulgarian army was fighting fearlessness but some of the Byzantine surrounded the castle and surprised badly th eBulgarian army.
Vasilii II ordered 14 000 soldiers who had been taken in captivity to go blind - only one of each 100 soldiers was left with only one eye to be able to lead the other 99. When Samuil saw his army blinded, his hurt could't endure it and he fall dead on the ground.
This place is not so well known because it is not among the popular destinations of the tourist brouchures but it deserves to be visited. If you decide on going yo this part of Bulgar
ia, you can sleep in the town of Petrich, visit Rupite and also feel the hospitality of this region.
On your way to The Samual's caslte you may get lostlike we did but there are always nice people who will show you the direction with smilе.
Don't expect too mutch - from the walls there is almost nothing left. For th eolder Bulgarian, who remember the days before 1989, this place is like it is made for "chavdarcheta" and "pionercheta".
The atmosphere takes you back to the time of socialism. The strange installation made of concrete was built above the monument, standing there like from senturies.
This place definitely deserves to be seen, to feel the silence, to touch the history and to enjoy the nature...!
